FOX-41 - Blendex Is a Growing Company
9/2004

It's a company that just can't stop growing.  Blendex is one of those successful Louisville area businesses that you don't often hear much about.

From its Jeffersontown plant, it produces dry food products.  For example, it makes the bread mix that goes into the rolls for the Texas Roadhouse chain of restaurants.  Papa John's and Mark's Feed Stores are also among Blendex's many other clients.

"We don't want to be good, we want to be great," says Blendex CEO Ronald Pottinger.  He says the company recently completed a 10,000 square foot renovation and plans are in the works for even more expansion.

You wouldn't think that a company with such a low profile would be affected by the September 11th terrorists attacks three years ago.  But Pottinger says businesses in the food processing industry have been forced to invest in security cameras, perimeter fencing and name tags because of the remote possibility of a terrorist attack aimed at this particular industry.

Blendex is an outgrowth of a company founded by Pottinger's father 25 years ago that supplied frying equipment to Kentucky Fried Chicken.

It currently has about 100 employees.  The past three years, the company has increased sales each year between 10 and 15 percent.  And that has earned it a place for the second year in a row on Business First's list of the 50 fastest growing privately held companies in the Louisville area.
